Have You Tried Rage Cleaning?

The rage cleaning movement is finally putting a name to something I have always done, and I’m pretty excited to see it. Are you having intense emotions about recent events? I get it. But now I also have spotless countertops. Want to kick something whenever you see an asinine Cabinet pick? Time to clean the floors. Want to know more about rage cleaning? Read on.

What is Rage Cleaning?

Rage cleaning is exactly what it sounds like. If you are having an angry moment, channel that energy into scrubbing, mopping, or dusting. You are having that surge of emotion anyway; this is just a more productive way of using that energy.

How Will I Use Rage Cleaning This Week?

Gardening

Rain is coming this weekend, which is a big deal in Venice. While we get more rain than much of Los Angeles, it’s still rare. It happens to be coinciding with the turnover of our garden. So, I used a lot of pent-up emotion to propel me into taking down the tomato plants (I love the smell of those leaves!) and moving the garden boxes out of the way. I still need to pull the root systems – never fear, I have enough anger to get through that project, too. I’m kidding a little bit. The rage got me into the project, and the satisfaction of doing something positive in our garden brought on a much-needed rush of endorphins.

Refrigerator

We had people over in our backyard for a fundraising wine dinner, which was a lot of fun. However, as we finished off the leftovers last week, I realized that the glass shelves in our refrigerator had seen their share of spills. Before Thanksgiving food arrives and prep begins, I will channel my rage into a solid scrub session to get those shelves sparkling. Also, what the hell is going on with our potato drawer? It’s a mystery that may never be solved, but I know I’m not alone in wondering how those refrigerator drawers get in that shape.

Organizing

I’m adding “rage organizing” to my list of tasks this week because the emotion is likely to push me through the chaos phase to get to completion. I’m turning over my summer (spring, summer, and fall, really) closet into the winter closet. I’m doing a big assessment of shoes, boots, coats, etc. Anything that I haven’t worn will get sold on Poshmark or donated.

Holiday Preparation

Those decorations will not get pulled out of the closet by themselves. I mean, maybe they could. If those decorations are also rage-filled, they might just propel themselves onto the fireplace mantel and elsewhere around the house. It could happen. But just in case it doesn’t happen, it’s time for me to pull holiday decorations out, assess what works or needs fixing, and what we need to replace. Hopefully, just seeing these things will infuse us with some beginnings of holiday joy.

How about you? Are you ready to embrace rage cleaning?
