Fall decor ideas are swirling fast and furious right now, but Apple Crisp Core may have my heart. The good news is that this fall aesthetic is as cozy and comforting as it sounds. What is it? What is this portal into the latest design trend? And do you have to give up Pumpkin Spice to embrace it? Hint: No. They can lovingly co-exist. If you are curious, read on for a slightly tongue-in-cheek look at the newest, fuzziest, warmest introduction to fall decor.
How Did Apple Crisp Core Come to Be?
Apple Crisp Core springs from the mind of Google. Well, okay, it started with a lot of Google searches about a Starbucks drink and then morphed into a realization that apples, apple crisp recipes, and apple crisp spices are all things that we love and deny ourselves most seasons of the year. Even if it is still 85 degrees out, you want to dig out your cozy sweaters, don’t you? That impulse has pushed the creation of an actual Apple Crisp design style. We want to bake. You want to go apple picking even if you live in a place in Southern California that requires hours in the car to do it.
How Do You Embrace Apple Crisp Core?
Just saying “Apple Crisp” conjures up the colors of fall. Cinnamon browns, golden crusts, and red Honeycrisp shades are finding increasing favor in decor right now. Should you reupholster your couch in one of these shades? Sure. If you were looking for inspiration, now might be the time. And personally, I’m a massive fan of complementary olive greens all year long.
If you aren’t thinking about making significant changes but still want to embrace these colors, there are easy ways. Plush throws, chunky weighted blankets, and pillows quickly bring in the color trend. Rugs that are a riot of colors will instantly transform a room. And, of course, a solid in your favorite hue can also bring a beautiful change to your space.
Don’t Forget the Lighting
Golden tones don’t just have to come from textiles or your baking rack (although, yum!). Changing bulbs to bring in golden rather than blue tones will infuse your room with warmth. If you prefer overheads over table lamps, consider installing dimmers to bring down the brightness of the space. There are even sunset lamps that give off an orange-red glow that is ideal for cuddling up with a book.
Fall Botanicals and Centerpieces are Here for You
You can go literal — a centerpiece filled with the ripest, juiciest array of apples ready for baking can be beautiful. These centerpieces don’t tend to last long at our house because I want to start baking with them immediately, but the idea yields a gorgeous, edible fall decor item while it lasts. The same is true of gourds on mantels, succulents in dishes, and dried harvest botanicals in vases on side tables. They can be stunning yet cost-effective additions to a home that embraces both Apple Crisp Core and a general sense of change and organic abundance.
Is this Ridiculous?
Do you have to change your fall decor aesthetic each time some design writer (hi, it’s me) tells you about a new one? No. That would cost you a fortune. It would also be nearly as wasteful as fast fashion and equally exhausting.
At the same time, Apple Crisp Core and other harvest-friendly design ideas can bring a sense of warmth, comfort, and joy to what can be a stressful season. So, take what you will from this trend and leave the rest. Then start baking. Or reading. Or napping. The world is a challenging place right now, and Apple Crisp Core could be the thing that helps us cocoon until Polar Plunge Core arrives.
