Are you looking for an affordable red wine to take to holiday parties or to enjoy on chilly winter nights? We were recently gifted a dazzling 2017 Domaine de Pallus Chinon Les Pensees de Pallus. If you are already a fan of Cabernet Francs, you’ll adore this. And if you are new to this type of red wine, you’ll love discovering this one.
Our Impression of this Affordable Red Wine
From the first sip, we knew this was a wine that had gotten some attention. It certainly did from us! I got hits of pepper and mulled spices, while Andy also got notes of black tea and something a bit earthier. We both agreed that this had some blackberry aromas, as well. Once we started sipping, I was amazed at how smooth and silky this Cabernet Franc was on the palate. There were cherry notes, but nothing overwhelming. The balance was beautiful, and we were excited to enjoy it a second night.
How Much is this Fantastic Cab Franc?
We got this as a gift, but we started shopping for another bottle as soon as we finished this one. Typically, you can find the 2017 for just under $30, but the trick is finding one. And as that gets harder, the price is likely to go up. It’s a steal, even at $20 more a bottle, but I’m thrilled that it is currently an affordable red wine (that drinks like a much more expensive bottle).
What are the Accolades?
If you don’t believe us that the 2017 Domaine de Pallus Chinon Les Pensees de Pallus is a delight, take a look at critical awards. This vintage received a 92 from Wine Spectator, 91 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, and 91 from James Suckling. And I’m guessing this dazzling red wine will also receive raves from you, your friends, and your family this winter.
