We loved Joe Mommas Coffee when we last visited Avila Beach, so when we found out that the cafe had moved onto the rooftop deck of the Inn at Avila Beach, we were thrilled. Not only does the café have terrific coffee, tea, and breakfasts, but its spot on the rooftop of the hotel lends itself to some pretty incredible views. It’s never a bad idea to start the day with something yummy and inspiring.
Having Joe’s as your go-to breakfast spot is a major perk of staying at the Inn at Avila Beach. It’s only open to hotel guests, and the breakfasts are all complimentary. We went up for quiche, or a warm croissant (or other delicious treats) from 7:30am to 10:00am while staying at the hotel. Even getting juice is a treat when you get to enjoy these views.
Not surprisingly, it’s a popular coffee spot, but it never felt overcrowded. Half of the sundeck is covered, and the other is open. Because it benefits from the outdoor airflow, we never felt uncomfortable being up there with other people. Plus, the staff was so friendly, we loved visiting every morning.
Of course, once Joe’s closes for the day, you can still go back and relax on the sundeck as a perk of your stay at the Inn at Avila Beach. There are fire pits, comfy chairs, barbeque grills, and an outdoor fireplace. We loved bringing our to-go lunch up to the rooftop to nosh while looking out at the ocean while sitting at the bar, protected by a shady palm tree.
While we mostly relaxed up there, Andy got a chance to try it as an early morning workspace. He gave it two thumbs up. He popped up to a table with his computer while I was getting ready. A little early morning tea, some laptop time, and the rising sun made for a great start to the day for him. And I can definitely see us taking advantage of it as a work spot if we came to town for a more extended work-cation.
